Junior Hurling Championship Round 1

Monaghan Harps .v. Clontibret

After a defeat in extra time in the provisional round of the championship on Sunday last our seniors moved to the junior championship. An exciting game that went to extra time as a winner was needed to decide who would go to the senior championship and who to the Junior in a new championship structure. A goal in the sixth minute of injury time saw us agonisingly lose in the last puck of the game. The game finishing 2-14 to 3-13.

We host Clontibret in the opening round of the Junior championship in Gavin Duffy Park, with a 7.30 pm throw-in. As our seniors look to bounce back they focus on a familiar opposition. Former juvenile harps hurler, Emmet Walsh, anchors Clontibret at halfback with the Greenan brothers scattered around the field. Shane McNally and Gareth Brennan will look to lead the Clontibret team and push for a win following a heavy defeat to Inniskeen. With Clontibret’s free-taker Cormac Connolly a dead ball specialist the Harps will look to be more disciplined in defense and concede fewer frees, in scoreable positions.

The Harps will look to the strong defense in new signing Dermot McMahon and Captain Conor Flynn who both shone against Carrick. The Harps will look to build on the youthful squad at their disposal with the likes of John Lowry, Tommy Croarkin, Aidan Burns, Remy McKenna, and Cillian Sherry. The return of Gavin Baxter, who was in quarantine for the initial game after returning from work in the Middle East, a huge bonus to the Harps.

Throw in, Wednesday 29/7/2020 at 7.30, and tickets €5 at the gate. To pre-book a ticket due to the constraint on numbers please contact Adrian Dalton at 0877859582.
