Monaghan Harps 6-3 v Truagh 4-4

A first win of the campaign for this new Harps team in what is a debut season for several team players. In goals, Luke Swift was excellent with one strong save in the first half and a calm and well marshalled square in the second half with two goal-line clearances. Full Back Ben, Caolan, and Robert cleared the ball to help the harps get out of trouble quite a few times. Daire McKenna and Joseph O’Neill hurled well in the half-back line with a great reading of the game between the two of them. They turned defence into the attack on numerous occasions to anchor a lot of the harps attacks. Midfield of Shane McGarry (1-0)and Odhran Connolly was the engine room of the team with Odhran playing box to box hurling. Odhran also scoring 1-3 (2f’s). Tiarnach Connolly at wing forward scored our opening goal plus another and showed his skill with some long-distance soloing as he constantly took on the Truagh defence. Conor O’Neill beside him got involved in a support role winning lots of the ball and as he held the ball up handing passing to great effect once the support arrived. Dean Mulligan in the full-forward line turned poacher rather than net keeper in this match with two goals from play. Thomas Murray and Cillian McKenna making sure to move the ball on and support all around them. The Harps now play Carrick away to Carrick in the last game of the year. Players asked to arrive in Carrick at 6.45 with an earlier throw-in of 7.15.
